The MBTA closed the Orange Line on Aug. 19 to the dismay of hundreds of thousands of people who ride that arm of the commuter rail every day. Boston and state leaders and federal regulators called for the repairs following several high-profile mistakes and accidents that happened over the summer because of aging infrastructure.
The transit system released a breakdown earlier this month of what construction crews have accomplished since closing the Orange Line two weeks ago. It shows workers have replaced 49 percent of track (1,700 feet), 44 percent of rail (6,200 feet), and 84 percent of "special track renewal," among other work.
MBTA leaders said they have turned a corner on the project and are hopeful they will reopen the Orange Line to passengers on Sept. 19 as promised.
